What do you need to know before you apply? First, in order to apply for a Smithfield-Luter Foundation Scholarship you must be a dependent child or grandchild of a full-time or retired employee of Smithfield Foods, Inc. and its family of companies.


You must apply to one of the higher education institutions where scholarships are currently available. The universities are as follows:

  •  Fayetteville State
  •  Iowa State University
  •  Johnson & Wales University
  •  Norfolk State
  •  Virginia Tech
  •  Virginia Union
  •  Wake Forest

In order to be awarded a scholarship you must be accepted by one of the schools listed above.

 

 

 

 

 

Additional Information

  • Students who apply for a Smithfield-Luter Foundation scholarship are free to pursue any course of study that they choose. However, preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in business, environmental preservation, animal husbandry or culinary arts (for Johnson & Wales applicants only).
  • Decisions on acceptance to the universities will be made solely by the Admissions Committee at that institution.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on the financial and demonstrable need of the student(s) and the amount of each scholarship will be determined by the universities’ Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Each scholarship will be in an amount not to exceed the cost of tuition and course-related fees, books, supplies and equipment for the student.
  • Each scholarship will be a one-year grant that will be renewable for each year of the scholarship recipient’s undergraduate education at one of the selected universities, provided that (1) the recipient continues to be enrolled as a full-time student and (2) the recipient remains in good academic standing.
